Create a zone

Last update:

  1. In the control panel, in the top menu, click Products and select DNS hosting.

  2. Click Add Zone.

  3. Enter the DNS zone name — the name of the domain with a dot, e.g. example.com...

  4. If you do not need to activate the zone immediately, clear the Activate Domain Zone checkbox. When the zone is deactivated, the zone and its resource records will not be given from NS servers. Services that use the zone will be unavailable. You can activate a zone at any time.

  5. Click Add.

    The zone will automatically create NS and SOA records with default values that cannot be edited:

    • NS — a.ns.selectel. ru., b.ns.selectel.ru., c.ns.selectel.ru., d.ns. selectel``.ru.
    • SOA — a.ns.selectel.ru. support.selectel.ru. <zone_serial_number> 10800 3600 604800 60, where <zone_serial_number> is the zone serial number, which changes when the zone is updated and signals the caching servers that records need to be cached again.

    After you create a zone, you can add resource records. You must delegate the domain for the records in the zone to start being given to the DNS system.

    If you unchecked the Activate domain zone checkbox in step 4, the zone will be created with the status DEACTIVATED and SOA record disabled, and no records in the zone will be submitted to the DNS system. You can activate the zone at any time.
