General information about DNS hosting

We have released a new version of DNS hosting (actual) and are gradually disabling the deprecated version (legacy) according to the shutdown stages.

Migrate your domains to DNS hosting (actual) now to avoid site downtime when DNS hosting (legacy) is disabled.

If you registered in the Control panel after January 30, 2024, only DNS hosting (actual) is available to you.

With the DNS hosting service, you can delegate control of domain resource records to authoritative Selectel NS servers.

You can work with DNS hosting:

in the control panel — DNS hosting section (actual), DNS hosting section (legacy);
via API — DNS hosting API description (actual), DNS hosting API description (legacy);
Terraform — documentation. Beta version, if you encounter errors, create a ticket;
octoDNS — Selectel provider. Beta version, if you encounter errors, create a ticket;
ExternalDNS for Kubernetes — Selectel provider.

For domains delegated to DNS hosting (actual), you can issue a TLS(SSL) certificate:

via LEgo — Selectel provider;
cert-manager Webhook — Selectel provider.

The service supports user types and roles and projects.

Records of operations with DNS hosting are saved in audit logs.

Decommissioning stages for DNS hosting (legacy)

As of March 1, 2025, creating new domains in DNS Hosting (legacy) is disabled. The service will be discontinued in 2026:

February 1 — editing existing records and domains will be disabled;
May 1 — the API and the section in the Control panel will be disabled — non-delegated zones will be deleted;
August 1 — authoritative NS servers will be shut down.

Authoritative servers

The service operates with four authoritative NS servers:

NS servers for DNS hosting (actual) — a.ns.selectel.ru, b.ns.selectel.ru, c.ns.selectel.ru, d.ns.selectel.ru;
NS servers for DNS hosting (legacy) — ns1.selectel.ru, ns2.selectel.ru, ns3.selectel.ru, ns4.selectel.ru.

Servers are protected by a firewall from DDoS attacks. Requests to authoritative servers are balanced within each data center and between data centers; thanks to this, DNS Hosting will process requests as long as at least one authoritative server is operational.

Pricing

The service is provided free of charge in addition to other paid products or services. To access the service, complete registration and top up your balance for the minimum amount of 200 ₽.

Limitations

Selectel DNS cannot be used as a Secondary DNS.

There are no limits on the number of domain zones in DNS hosting, nor on the number of resource records in a zone.
