General information about DNS hosting

We have released a new version of DNS hosting (actual) and are gradually shutting down the legacy version (legacy) according to the stages.

Transfer domains to DNS hosting (actual) now to avoid website downtime when DNS hosting (legacy) is shut down.

If you registered in the control panel after January 30, 2024, only DNS hosting (actual) is available to you.

With the DNS hosting service, you can delegate domain resource record management to authoritative Selectel NS servers.

You can work with DNS hosting:

in the control panel — DNS hosting (actual) section, DNS hosting (legacy) section;
via the API — DNS hosting (actual) API documentation, DNS hosting (legacy) API documentation;
Terraform — documentation. Beta version, in case of errors, submit a ticket;
octoDNS — Selectel provider. Beta version, in case of errors, submit a ticket;
ExternalDNS for Kubernetes — Selectel provider.

For domains delegated to DNS hosting (actual), you can issue a TLS (SSL) certificate:

via LEgo — Selectel provider;
cert-manager Webhook — Selectel provider.

The service supports user types and roles and projects.

Records of operations with DNS hosting are saved in audit logs.

Decommissioning stages for DNS hosting (legacy)

Starting March 1, 2025, creating new domains in DNS hosting (legacy) is disabled. The service will be discontinued in 2026:

July 1 — editing of existing records and domains will be disabled;
October 1 — the API and the section in the control panel will be disabled — undelegated zones will be deleted;
December 1 — authoritative NS servers will stop operating.

Migrate domains to DNS hosting (actual) now to avoid website downtime when DNS hosting (legacy) is shut down.

Authoritative servers

The service operates four authoritative NS servers:

DNS hosting (actual) NS servers — a.ns.selectel.ru, b.ns.selectel.ru, c.ns.selectel.ru, d.ns.selectel.ru;
DNS hosting (legacy) NS servers — ns1.selectel.ru, ns2.selectel.ru, ns3.selectel.ru, ns4.selectel.ru.

Servers are protected by a firewall against DDoS attacks. Requests to authoritative servers are balanced within each data center and between data centers; thanks to this, DNS Hosting will process requests as long as at least one authoritative server is running.

Pricing

The service is provided free of charge in addition to other paid products or services. To access the service, complete registration and top up your balance by the minimum amount of 200 ₽ .

Limitations

Selectel DNS cannot be used as a Secondary DNS.

In DNS hosting, the number of domain zones and the number of resource records in a zone is unlimited.
