Manage replication jobs

You can manage replication jobs on your cloud or Selectel cloud side. The instructions describe how to manage jobs on the Selectel cloud side.

Create a replication job

For more information on configuring replication, see the Create a Protection instructions in the VMware documentation.

  1. From the Control Panel, open the Cloud Director panel: from the top menu, click ProductsVMware-based CloudCloud Director.

  2. From the Menu menu, select Availability.

  3. Go to the Incoming Replications section.

  4. Click ( **New protection **).

  5. In the Cloud vApps and VMs step, in the Source site field, select the primary site from which the virtual machines will be replicated.

  6. Check the virtual machines that you want to replicate. They must be powered on — as long as the virtual machine is powered off, replication will not start.

  7. Click Next.

  8. In the Destination VDC and Storage policy step, select the virtual data center in the Selectel cloud to which replication will occur.

  9. Select the storage policy that is appropriate for your virtual data center.

  10. Click Next.

  11. In the Settings step, specify the RPO value, see VMware' s Recovery Point Objective documentation for more information. When selecting a value, consider your infrastructure requirements: if you have a slow Internet connection or a large amount of data being modified on the primary virtual machine, increase the RPO value.

  12. Enable the Enable retention policy toggle switch and configure the policy for creating and storing copies of virtual machines:

    • Instances — The number of replication instances that will be stored at a time;
    • Distance — frequency of copy creation in units from the field Unit;
    • unit — A unit of time (hours, days, months, etc.).
  13. Optional: To set the time of the first synchronization, in the Delay start synchronization block, enable the toggle switch and specify the date and time of the first synchronization of virtual machines on the primary and backup sites.

  14. Optional: to exclude individual disks from replication and save disk space on the backup site, enable the toggle switch in the Exclude disks block.

  15. Optional: If there is already a copy of the replicated virtual machine in the Selectel cloud and you want to synchronize it with a virtual machine on the primary site, in the Configure Seed VM block, enable the toggle switch and specify the target machine.

  16. Click Next.

  17. If you enabled the toggle switch in the Configure Seed VM block, in the Seed VM step, select the virtual machine copies to synchronize.

  18. If you enabled the toggle switch in the Exclude disks block, in the Replicated Disks step, mark the disks to be replicated.

  19. At the Ready to complete step, verify the settings and click Finish. Creating a replication job will take time.

Create a reverse replication job

After a failover, you can set up a reverse replication from the backup site (Selectel cloud) to your primary site. To do this, the replication job that caused the failover must be in Failed-Over status.

During the reverse replication process, the virtual machines will be available.

For more information about reverse replication jobs, see the Perform a Reverse Task instructions in the VMware documentation.

  1. From the Control Panel, open the Cloud Director panel: from the top menu, click ProductsVMware-based CloudCloud Director.
  2. From the Menu menu, select Availability.
  3. Go to the Incoming Replications section.
  4. Mark the job for the virtual machine on which replication was performed.
  5. From the All actions menu, select Reverse.
  6. Press Reverse.
  7. In the new job, the Cloud vApps and VMs tab will automatically select the primary site and virtual data centers.
  8. Configure the other parameters as you would when creating a replication job.

Delete a replication job

  5. From the All actions menu, select Delete replication.
  6. Press Delete.
