Failover
In case of a primary site failure, you must manually start the replicated virtual machine at the backup site.
In this guide, failover is considered on the Selectel side. If, after a failure, you have access to the Cloud Availability of your cloud or On-Premises, you can switch to the Selectel cloud in your cloud interface.
-
From the control panel, open the Cloud Director panel: in the top menu, click Products → VMware-based cloud → Cloud Director.
-
In the Menu, select Availability.
-
Go to the Incoming Replications.
-
Select the task for the virtual machine you want to start.
-
In the All actions menu, select Failover.
-
Optional: to consolidate several separate replication instances, select the Consolidate VM disks.
-
Optional: to power on the virtual machine after recovery, select the Power on recovered VMs.
-
In the Network Settings block, choose whether to connect the virtual machine to a specific network or use pre-configured network parameters.
-
Click Next.
-
Select a recovery point.
-
Click Next.
-
Check the parameters and click Finish. After recovery, the Recovery state column in the replication task row will show Failed-Over as the status. After failover, the virtual machine is located in a different virtual data center and is no longer being replicated.
-
After recovering the virtual machine, perform one of these actions:
- switch back to your primary site and set up replication again — the virtual machine will run on your site again and be replicated to the Selectel cloud;
- delete the replication job — the virtual machine will continue to run in the Selectel cloud and will not be replicated;
- or set up replication from the backup site to the primary site — the virtual machine will run in the Selectel cloud and be replicated to your site, with all VMware-based public cloud resources being paid for.
