Restore operation at the primary site after failing over

Last update:

After failing over to the secondary site, your virtual machine runs continuously in the Selectel cloud. You can synchronize the replicated virtual machine with the stopped virtual machine at the primary site (in your cloud) and set up a new replication job to use the Selectel cloud only in the event of a disaster.

For data replication from the secondary site to the primary site, VMware Cloud Director Availability™ version 4.3 or higher must be installed on both sites.

Before restoring the virtual machine operation at the primary site:

  • make sure the restored virtual machine and the virtual machine at the secondary site have the same number of disks;
  • make sure that in your cloud, there is at least twice as much memory available as required for the virtual machine being replicated.

Read more about returning to the primary site in the Reverse a Replication section of the VMware documentation.

Restore virtual machine operation at the primary site

  1. Create a reverse replication job.
  2. Fail back from the Selectel cloud back to your provider cloud or On-Premises infrastructure.
  3. Delete the reverse replication job.
  4. Optional: to ensure your virtual machine is protected again, create a new replication job from your site to the Selectel cloud.
