General information about DNS hosting service

Last update:
warning

We have released a new version of DNS hosting (actual) and are gradually disabling the legacy version according to the steps.

Transfer domains to DNS hosting (actual) now to avoid disruption of sites when DNS hosting (legacy) goes down.

If you registered after January 30, 2024, only DNS hosting (actual) is available to you.

With the DNS hosting service, you can delegate the management of domain resource records to authoritative Selectel NS servers.

It is possible to work with DNS hosting:

For domains that are delegated to DNS hosting (actual), you can issue a TLS(SSL)-certificate:

The service supports user types and roles and projects.

Steps to disable DNS hosting (legacy)

As of March 1, 2025, the creation of new domains in DNS hosting (legacy) is disabled. The service will cease operation in 2026:

  • February 1 — Editing of existing records and domains will be disabled;
  • May 1 — the API and section in the dashboard will be disabled — non-delegated zones will be removed;
  • August 1 — authoritative NS servers will stop working.

Transfer domains to DNS hosting (actual) now to avoid disruption of sites when DNS hosting (legacy) goes down.

Authoritative servers

The service has four authoritative NS-servers:

  • NS servers of DNS hosting (actual) — a.ns.selectel.ru, b.ns.selectel.ru, c.ns.selectel.ru, d.ns. selectel.ru;
  • NS servers of DNS hosting (legacy) — ns1.selectel.ru, ns2.selectel.ru, ns3.selectel.ru, ns4``.selectel.ru.

Servers are protected by a firewall against DDoS attacks.Requests to authoritative servers are balanced within each data center and between data centers, thanks to this DNS hosting will process requests as long as at least one authoritative server is working.

Cost

The service is provided free of charge in addition to other paid products or services.To get access to the service, complete registration and top up the balance by a minimum amount 100 ₽.

Limitations

Selectel DNS cannot be used as Secondary DNS.

DNS hosting does not limit the number of domain zones, as well as the number of resource records in a zone.
