Perform basic setup

The network in the A-Data Center is physically isolated from the Selectel shared networks, making it impossible to manage the network and server operating system via control panel.

Connect to server via SSH/RDP can only be used after basic configuration.

  1. Forward ports for IPMI server access.
  2. If no operating system is installed on the server, install it from your image via the server's IPMI.
  3. Configure the network interface on the server.
  4. Optional: Forward server ports to internet.

Forward ports for IPMI access

Port forwarding is performed on the firewall. To connect to it, use the data we send in the ticket after firewall order. The list of ports that are used in operation, the purpose of their use, and their default values can be viewed in the Used Ports table.

  1. In the address bar of your browser, type the IP address of the firewall:

    https://<ip_address>:<port>

    Specify:

    • <ip_address> — IP address of the firewall;
    • <port> is the port to connect to.
  2. Route the IPMI ports for Virtual Media and IKVM Server to the Internet.

    The port in the firewall rule must match the port in the IPMI server settings. For example, if you specify port 8443 in the firewall rule for HTTPS access, then specify port 8443 in the server settings as well.

    Use the instructions depending on your firewall:

Used ports

Web SSL PortIKVM Server PortVirtual Media PortWeb Port*
Purpose of UseGUI access via HTTPSConsole accessISO downloadGUI access via HTTP
Default value443590062380

*For security reasons, we recommend disabling Web Port.

Install the operating system from your image

OS installation for the server in the A data center is performed via IPMI. Use the ticket data to connect to IPMI.

  1. In the address bar of your browser, type the IPMI server address.
  2. Enter username and password.
  3. Go to Remote ControlConsole Redirection.
  4. Press Launch Console.
  5. The Remote Console opens. If Remote Console does not open, save the suggested Java file, run it, and confirm the security exception.
  6. Open Virtual MediaVirtual Storage.
  7. In the Device 1 tab, specify the parameter values:
    • Logical Drive Type — ISO File;
    • Image File Name and Full Path — the path to the image.
  8. Press Plug In. The image will be connected.
  9. Click the Power Control. tab.
  10. Press Set Power Reset. The server will be rebooted.
  11. When restarting the server, change the boot order and specify booting from Device 1.
  12. Install the OS.
  13. When the OS is installed, disconnect the image via IPMI. On the Device 1 tab, click Plug Out.
  14. Restart the server.

Configure the network interface on the server

The network interfaces on the server in the A data center are configured via IPMI.

  6. Authorize OS.
  7. Configure the network interface on the server

Forward server ports to the Internet

Port forwarding is performed on the firewall. To connect to the firewall, use the data we send in the ticket after firewall order.

After port forwarding, you can connect to the server, firewall, and IPMI using the same IP address with different ports. If public addresses from a dedicated subnet are used for the servers, it will be possible to connect to the servers using them. For IPMI interfaces, we recommend using a private subnet and restricting access only from trusted addresses.

  1. In the address bar of your browser, type the IP address of the firewall:

    https://<ip_address>:<port>

    Specify:

    • <ip_address> — IP address of the firewall;
    • <port> is the port to connect to.
  2. Route the IPMI ports for Virtual Media and IKVM Server to the Internet. Use the instructions depending on your firewall:
