Connect to a dedicated server

You can connect to a dedicated server to remotely manage it:

  • via SSH — for servers with Linux operating system;
  • via RDP — for Windows servers;
  • via VNC — for servers running macOS;
  • via KVM-console — for servers with any operating system and for [Chipcore Line] servers(/servers-and-infrastructure/dedicated/order/dedicated-configurations.mdx#prebuilt-servers) with optional service IP-KVM Connection for 3 hours.

If you ordered a server without an operating system, you can install the OS manually.

View parameters for connecting

The settings for connecting to a dedicated server can be viewed in control panel:

  • user name (login) and password — in Servers and HardwareServers → Server page → Operating System tab → Login and Password fields;
  • public IP address of the server — in Servers and HardwareServers → server page → Operating System tab → IP field.

If you forget your server password, you can reset and recover it.

Connect via SSH

The SSH protocol is used to connect to Linux servers.

To connect to the server, you can enter a login and password or use a SSH key pair. We recommend using SSH keys instead of login and password — you can only connect using keys from the computer where the private key is stored.

You can store public SSH keys in the control panel in storage for SSH keys.

  1. Optional: create an SSH key pair and place a public SSH key on the server.

  2. Open the CLI.

  3. Connect to the server:

    ssh <username>@<ip_address>

    Specify:

    • <username> — user name (login). You can look in Control Panel under Servers and HardwareServers → Server page → Operating System tab → Login field;
    • <ip_address> is the public IP address of the server. You can look in Control Panel under Servers and HardwareServers → Server page → Operating System tab → IP field.
  4. Enter your password. The password can be viewed in Control Panel under Servers and HardwareServers → Server page → Operating System tab → Password field.

    If you are using SSH keys, you do not need to enter a password.

Connect via RDP

The RDP protocol is used to connect to dedicated Windows servers.

  1. Open the Start menuRemote Desktop Connection.
  2. In the Computer field, enter the public IP address of the server. You can look in Control Panel under Servers and HardwareServers → Server page → Operating System tab → IP field.
  3. Press Connect.
  4. Enter a username. You can look in Control Panel under Servers and HardwareServers → Server page → Operating System tab → Login field.
  5. Enter your password. You can look in Control Panel under Servers and HardwareServers → Server page → Operating System tab → Password field.
  6. Press OK.

Connect via VNC

The VNC protocol is used to connect to dedicated servers running macOS.

  1. Start the Finder.

  2. Open the Go to → Server Connection menu.

  3. In the Server Address field, enter:

    vnc://<ip_address>

    Specify <ip_address> — the public IP address of the server. You can look in Control Panel under Servers and HardwareServers → Server page → Operating System tab → IP field.

  4. Press Connect.

  5. Enter your user name and password. You can look in Control Panel under Servers and HardwareServers → Server page → Operating System tab → Login and Password field.

  6. Click Log in.

Connect via KVM console

You can connect via the KVM console in Control Panel to a dedicated server with any operating system.

To connect via KVM console to Chipcore Line servers, order the optional service IP-KVM Connection for 3 hours. For more information about working with the KVM console, see the Manage Server via KVM Console instructions.

  1. In Control Panel, go to Servers and HardwareServers.
  2. Open the Server List tab.
  3. In the server card, click . The KVM console will launch in a new browser tab. If required, expand the KVM console window.
  4. If you have an X8DTU motherboard, synchronize cursor.
  5. If the KVM console asks for permission to run, confirm the permission by clicking Run.
  6. If the KVM console requests authorization, successively place the cursor in the Username and Password field and click on username and password in the lower right corner of the window. The values in the fields will be substituted automatically. If you don't see the buttons in the lower right corner, reconnect to the console.
  7. When the KVM console control panel appears in front of you, select Remote control from the left menu. On the remote access page, click Launch H5Viewer.
  8. Authorize on the server. You can view login (username) and password (password) in Control Panel under Servers and HardwareServers → Server page → Operating System tab → Login and Password field. The password is available for review 24 hours from the start of the OS installation or configuration change. If you are connecting to a Windows server, make sure that the English layout is enabled on the server when you enter the password.
