Create a monitoring metric

Last update:
  1. In the dashboard, from the top menu, click Products and select Monitoring.

  2. Make sure you have metrics available to create — in the top right corner, see the number of metrics created and the total number of metrics available. If all available metrics have been created, order additional metrics. Three metrics are available for free.

  3. Click Create Metric.

  4. Enter the name of the metric.

  5. Enter tags to filter in the metrics list.

  6. Select the type of metric.

  7. In the Host/IP field, enter the domain or IP address of the server to be checked.

  8. Select the protocol to be used for the test.

  9. Select the test period — how often the test will be performed.

  10. Select the test timeout — the period of time after which the test will be considered unsuccessful.

  11. Select the sequence in which the checks are executed. The execution sequence determines from which test points the queries will be sent:

    • sequentially — each next test will be performed from the next test point from the list of selected points;
    • in parallel — each check will be performed from all selected points simultaneously;
    • randomly — each next test will be performed from a random point from the list of selected points.
  12. Specify additional parameters for the selected metric type.

  13. Check the checkpoints. The points have their IP addresses — if you have a firewall installed on your server, include these addresses in the firewall rules.

  14. Optional: mark the contacts to which the metric notification will be sent.By default, a Fail event notification will be created for the marked contacts, which will be sent for any undesired result of the check.For example, for a check like PING, the Fail event includes a timeout and server connection error.You will be able to customize notifications of monitoring results after the metric is created.

  15. If you don't want to display the metric on the public monitoring statistics page for your account, uncheck the Output in public report checkbox.

  16. If you do not want the results of the metric checks to be included in the weekly report, uncheck the Include in weekly email report checkbox .

  17. Optional: test the metric — click Test Metric.

  18. If you want to leave the new metric inactive, uncheck the Enable metric immediately after creation checkbox.

  19. Click Create and Run.
