General information about the Domains service

Selectel offers domains in the .ru or .rf zones. You can register a new domain or transfer an existing domain from another registrar.

You can work with domains in the service, for example, change administrator data, change administrator, delegate a domain.

User types and roles and projects are supported in the product.

Principle of operation⁠

Domain registration is a lease of the right to use a domain name for the registration period.

When registering a domain, an administrator — the domain owner — is specified for it. The domain administrator may be an individual or an organization. Information about the registered domain and its administrator shall be stored in the domain name registry of the .RU/.RF Coordination Center.

You can use Selectel DNS hosting to manage domain resource records.

Domain life periods⁠

Registration period

It starts when you register a domain.
For domains in zones .ru и .rf lasts for one year.

The domain belongs to you, in the last 60 days of the period opens the possibility to renew the domain

Period of preferential extension

Starts immediately after the registration period if you have not renewed the domain.
For domains in zones .ru и .rf lasts 30 days.

The domain is still owned by you, its resource records are valid, but any action other than renewal is prohibited for the domain

Domain deletion

The domain is deleted if you have not renewed the domain before the end of the priority renewal period.

After deletion, the domain's resource records will automatically expire, the administrator's information will be cleared, and the domain will be available for registration to anyone. You will be able to re-register the domain if it is not already occupied

Cost⁠

A single balance or primary balance is used for payment depending on the type of balance in the account.

When you register a domain, your balance is charged for the first registration period of one year. If you transfer a domain to Selectel from another registrar, the transfer fee is deducted from your balance and the remaining registration period continues.

By default, auto-renewal is enabled for the domain — the fee for the next registration period is deducted from the balance automatically 60 days before the end of the registration period. You can disable auto-renewal and renew the domain manually if necessary.
