Restore backup
Restore backup
You can rebuild:
The restore from backup system uses anti-virus protection. If viruses are detected during recovery from backup, they will be removed.
Restore the virtual machine
When restoring a virtual machine, the virtual machine can overwrite the old version or revert to a separate VM.
Restore a virtual machine with overwrite
- Open the Veeam Backup & Replication portal. You can access the portal from control panels: VMware-based cloud →Backup → Configure backup.
- Open the tab VMs.
- Select a virtual machine.
- Click Restore VM.
- Select a restore point.
- Optional: To have the virtual machine automatically start after the restore, check the checkbox Power on VM after restoring.
- To restore only those data blocks that are necessary to return the VM to an earlier state instead of restoring the entire VM from backup, enable the option Quick rollback (restore changed blocks only). Recovery time will be shortened, performance will not change.
- Click Restore. Before starting the restore, you will be warned that the backup will be deployed on top of the running machine. The running machine will be shut down and deleted. The recovery status will be displayed on the same tab.
Restore a virtual machine without overwriting
- Open the Veeam Backup & Replication portal. You can access the portal from control panels: VMware-based cloud →Backup → Configure backup.
- Open the tab VMs.
- Select a virtual machine.
- Click Restore VM.
- Select a restore point.
- Click Restore.
- Select keep. VM will be restored side by side, without overwriting the current BM. The restore status will be displayed on the same tab.
Restore vApp
- Open the Veeam Backup & Replication portal. You can access the portal from control panels: VMware-based cloud →Backup → Configure backup.
- Open the tab VMs.
- Select a virtual machine.
- Click Restore vApp.
Recover a virtual disk
- Open the Veeam Backup & Replication portal. You can access the portal from control panels: VMware-based cloud →Backup → Configure backup.
- Open the tab VMs.
- Open the virtual machine page.
- Click Virtual Disks.
- In step Restore Point select a restore point.
- Click Next.
- In step Disk Mapping click Choose.
- Select the virtual machine to which the recovered disk will be connected. By default, the recovered disk is connected to the source machine. The target machine must not have any snapshots.
- Click OK.
- Mark the disks you want to restore.
- Optional: If you want to keep the original disk intact, press Change disk mapping and select an available controller node. If you do not do this, the recovered disk will connect to the same controller node as the original disk and overwrite it.
- Optional: if you want to change the type of recovered disk, in the field Restored Disk Type select a type. If you do not do this, the recovered disk will be of the same type as the original disk.
- Optional: if you restore to the source machine and controller node, instead of restoring the entire disk from the backup, you can restore only those data blocks that are necessary to return the disk to an earlier state — to do this, check the checkbox Quick rollback (restore changed blocks only). Recovery time will be shortened, performance will not change.
- Click Restore. The target machine will be shut down during the recovery process.
- Optional: to have the virtual machine start automatically after disk recovery, check the checkbox Power on target VM after disk is restored.
Recover individual files
The file can be restored to the original virtual machine or downloaded locally. The files are restored through VMware Tools.
Restoring files in this way is limited in speed. For recovering files of 10 GB or more, we recommend connecting to the recovery portal from a virtual machine and downloading the files. If the volume of recoverable files is 100 GB or more, the optimal solution is to virtual disk recovery and reboot the virtual machine.
- Open the Veeam Backup & Replication portal. You can access the portal from control panels: VMware-based cloud →Backup → Configure backup.
- Open the tab Files.
- Click Pick from list and select the virtual machine where the file is located.
- Click Mount.
- Locate the directory and file.
- If you need to recover multiple files from different directories, add the required files to the recovery list Add to restore list. All files will be displayed on the tab Pending RestoreYou can restore or download them. The time required to upload large files locally via browser depends on the Internet channel used.
