Migration from On-Premises VMware Cloud Director Availability to the Cloud

Migration from on-premises vSphere infrastructure (On-Premises) can be performed from VMware Cloud Director® or VMware vCenter Server®. For vSphere 5.5, 6.0 versions, migration can only be performed through the Cloud Director interface.

  1. Create a new migration.
  2. Configure migration.

1. Create a new migration

  1. In vCenter, from the Menu menu, select Cloud Availability.
  2. Go to Outgoing Replications.
  3. Click (New Migration).

2. Set up migration

  1. Enter the organization's administrator credentials in the format administrator-<s-xxxx>@<s-xxxx>, where <s-xxxx> is the name of the organization.
  2. In the vCenter VMs step, select the virtual machine that you will replicate.
  3. At the Source VMs and vApps step, in the Destination Site field, click Select site and select the VMware Cloud Director site.
  4. In the Settings step, set a convenient time for the first synchronization.
  5. To save disk space on the remote site, eliminate unnecessary disks.
  6. If the remote site already has a previously imported copy of the replicated virtual machine, select it to reduce traffic.
  7. Wait for the initial data synchronization to complete.
  8. Press (Migrate).
  9. For a running copy of the virtual machine at the remote site, select network.
  10. Consolidate the virtual machine disks.
  11. Configure the virtual machine to power on after migration.
  12. To delete a replication task, under Outgoing Replications, check the box and select Delete replication from the ALL ACTIONS menu.
