Deploy a virtual machine with Windows Server

To deploy a virtual machine with Windows Server, you can using the standard template or ISO image.

Using the standard template

  1. From control panels open the Cloud Director panel: VMware-based cloudCloud Director.

  2. Open the virtual data center page.

  3. Go to the section ComputevApps.

  4. Click NEWNew vApp.

  5. Enter the name of the vApp.

  6. Click Add virtual machine.

  7. Enter Name.

  8. Enter Computer Name.

  9. In the field Type select the type of image from which the virtual machine will be created:

    • New — out of your own image;
    • From Template — from a ready-made image from the ISO Library image repository.
  10. If the field Type you have chosen Newin the field OS family select the OS family, press ADD and download an image with one of the Datacenter edition versions of the OS.

  11. If the field Type you have chosen From Template, on the block. Templates mark one of the images with Standard edition OS:

    • Windows Server 2012 R2
    • Windows Server 2016
    • Windows Server 2019
    • Windows Server 2022
  12. Optional: to enable the virtual machine immediately after creation, select the checkbox Power on.

  13. In the field Storage Policy select the type of network drive.

  14. Click OK.

  15. Click Create. Creating a virtual machine in a vApp container will take time.

View administrator password

During the first startup of the OS, an automatic reboot and image customization takes place. After rebooting, the standard authentication window will open.

  1. From control panels open the Cloud Director panel: VMware-based cloudCloud Director.
  2. Open the virtual data center page.
  3. Go to the section ComputeVirtual Machines.
  4. In the card of the desired virtual machine, click DETAILS.
  5. Select Guest OS Customization and press EDIT.
  6. In the field Specify password look up the password.

Using an ISO image

  1. From control panels open the Cloud Director panel: VMware-based cloudCloud Director.

  2. Open the virtual data center page.

  3. Go to the section ComputeVirtual Machines.

  4. Click NEW VM.

  5. Enter the name of the virtual machine.

  6. In the field Type select New.

  7. In the field OS family select Microsoft Windows.

  8. In the field Operating System select the OS version Microsoft Windows. When creating a virtual machine with Windows Server 2019, select the Windows Server 2016 type from the OS type selection menu.

  9. In the field Boot image select the ISO image of the OS.

  10. In the field Select a Size select the amount of CPU and memory.

  11. In the field Storage add the required number of disks, specify their sizes and storage policies:

    • for Gold pool — vSSD or Fast vSSD;
    • for Silver pool — Fast vHDD or vHDD.
  12. Optional: in the field Networking add a network.

  13. Click OK.

  14. On the menu. ACTIONS of the virtual machine, select Install VMware Tools.

  15. Click INSTALL.
