Product Description: Agent-Based Backup (Veeam® Agent)

Last update:

Agent-based backup allows you to create backups of applications, databases, volumes, files, physical machines, and virtual machines using Veeam® Agent.

The product is suitable for any physical servers, workstations, and virtual machines running Windows, Linux, and macOS. See the list of supported OS. Physical and virtual systems from which backups are performed can be hosted at any site, provided they have internet access:

  • on-premises infrastructure (On-Premises);
  • private or public cloud;
  • any data center or provider;
  • Selectel cloud servers, virtual machines, and dedicated servers.

Agent-based backup includes the following:

  • Veeam Agent license — provided by the provider for rent automatically under the rental licensing scheme. The license is provided for agents managed via the Veeam Service Provider Console portal (vac.selectel.ru);
  • space in a cloud repository for backup storage;
  • centralized management of agents and backup policies via the Veeam Service Provider Console portal (vac.selectel.ru).

If you use the Backup with agents service, space in the Veeam Cloud Connect repository is provided when you order the service. If you already have your own Veeam Agent licenses, you can use the Veeam Cloud Connect cloud repository to store backups in the cloud.

If you need help with agent-based backup administration, order the Managed Services service.

Technical implementation

Agents

  • Veeam Backup Agent — performs data backup, installed on a server or virtual machine;
  • Veeam Management Agent — used to manage backup agents via the Veeam Service Provider Console portal.

Veeam Service Provider Console portal

Backups are managed via the Veeam Service Provider Console portal (vac.selectel.ru), which allows you to:

  • install and update agents (backup agents and management agents);
  • configure backup policies;
  • manage email notifications;
  • monitor agents, backup jobs, and cloud repository capacity.

Learn more about working with the portal in the Working with the Veeam Service Provider Console Portal section and Veeam documentation.

Cloud repository

The cloud repository is built based on the Veeam Cloud Connect solution.

To ensure fault tolerance, backup data is stored in three copies on different physical disks.

The channel speed to cloud repository servers is unlimited. The network is built on 10GbE interfaces.

In the cloud repository, clients are isolated from each other and have access only to their own backups.
