Traffic consumption model for a colocation server

Last update:

Traffic consumption model — a scheme for accounting for all traffic of a colocation server (incoming, outgoing) that passes through an Internet port.

You can choose one of the traffic accounting schemes:

  • bandwidth-based accounting:

    • 100 Mbps bandwidth included;
    • no limits on incoming and outgoing traffic volume;
    • bandwidth can be increased using additional services.
  • volume-based accounting:

    • 30 TB of traffic included per month;
    • no channel speed limits—limited only by the physical connection speed;
    • you can purchase traffic volume using additional services. The cost of additional services is displayed in the control panel: in the top menu, click ProductsColocation → equipment page → Services.

During load spikes, for example, after an advertising campaign, we recommend choosing a bandwidth equal to the physical port speed—the throughput is practically unlimited, but you will need to pay extra for traffic exceeding 30 TB per month. In the 100 Mbps bandwidth model, there are no traffic limits—it is more suitable, for example, for a database.

If the set limits are exceeded, you will receive a notification about the overage.

When exceeding the limits defined by the traffic consumption model, speed/traffic is not throttled but is charged additionally. This helps avoid interruptions in the operation of software hosted on the server.

The accounting scheme can be changed no more than once a month. For example, if the traffic accounting scheme was changed on February 21, you will be able to revert to the previous one no earlier than March 21.

the consumption counter is reset on the first day of each month — if you change the consumption model to a new one in the middle or at the end of the month, the "full" limit of 30 TB will be available until the beginning of the next calendar month.

View traffic consumption model

the accounting scheme is specified in the control panel: in the top menu, click ProductsColocation → equipment page → tab Network.

Change traffic consumption model

To change the selected traffic accounting scheme:

  1. In the menu, select Change consumption model.
  2. To confirm the traffic consumption model change, click Change consumption model.

As a result of these actions, the traffic consumption model will be changed.

You will be able to return to the previous one in a month.

In case the monthly limit of 30 TB is exhausted, you will be sent a notification about the traffic limit overage.

You can purchase additional traffic volume (tab Services section **Available services for the selected volume-based accounting scheme **). After purchasing an additional traffic package, the monthly volume counter will increase and will be valid until the first day of the next calendar month.
