Private network a server in an A-DC and a dedicated server from the same pool

Within one pool a server hosted in the A data center, and dedicated server can be combined into a private (local) network at the L2 level.

Network connectivity is ensured by means of firewall which is housed in the A data center, and Selectel network equipment.

Principle of operation

The dedicated server and firewall are connected to Selectel LAN switches and a common VLAN is assigned to their ports. Direct switching using firewall is possible only for servers that are located in the A data center.

Dedicated servers (except for some Chipcore Line servers) are connected to Selectel LAN switches by default and are included in a dedicated VLAN. To see which VLAN is assigned to a port, go to control panels on the server page → tab Ports. The server in the A-DC does not connect to Selectel LAN switches by default, but connects to the firewall directly.

When requesting LAN interconnection of a dedicated server and a server in an A data center for a firewall A port on the Selectel LAN switch is allocated and the same VLAN as on the dedicated server is assigned to it. The port for firewall is allocated free of charge.

Configure private connectivity between a server in the A-DC and a dedicated server in the same pool

  1. Organize a private network between devices.
  2. Configure the firewall.
  3. Configure a dedicated server.

1. organize a private network between devices

  1. Create a ticket with a request to organize a private network between devices. Specify:

    • the dedicated server identifier (UUID), can be viewed in the control panels: from the top menu, press ProductsDedicated servers → server card;
    • number firewall in the A data center, you can look at control panels on the device page;
    • local port number on firewall to connect.
  2. In the created ticket, wait for a Selectel employee to reply that the private network between the devices has been organized.

2. Configure the firewall

  1. Connect to the FortiGate through the GUI.

  2. Go to the section NetworkInterfaces.

  3. Create a new logical interface by clicking Create NewInterface.

  4. In the field Type select Software Switch as the interface configuration type.

  5. In the field Address enter the desired IP address from the private subnet, e.g. 192.168.100.1/24.

  6. In the field Interface members Add the physical ports that have connectivity:

    • to a server in the A data center, which is aggregated into a private network;
    • to a Selectel LAN switch.

3. set up a dedicated server

The LAN for the dedicated server is fed to the network interface with the highest MAC address value.

  1. On the network interface of the dedicated server, configure a private IPv4 address from the private subnet range that you specified at the firewall configuration in the field Address.
  2. Set the interface address firewall as the default gateway.
