Effector Saver

Effector Saver is a data backup program for Windows OS that supports working with cloud storage via the S3 protocol.

Configure Effector Saver

  1. Configure S3 access.
  2. Install the client.
  3. Configure the client.

1. Configure S3 access

Access can be configured by the Account Owner or a user with the iam.admin role.

  1. Create a service user with a role with S3 access. If you use a service user with the s3.user, object_storage_user, or s3.bucket.user role, an access policy must be configured for the bucket, and its rules must allow access to this user.
  2. Issue an S3 key to the user.

2. Install the client

On the Effector Saver website, download and install the client.

3. Configure the client

  1. Open Effector Saver.

  2. If opening Effector Saver for the first time:

    2.1. Select the program language.

    2.2. Activate your license or trial version.

  3. If you intend to use Effector Saver:

    • regularly or for automatic backup of important data, especially on a server or PC that may restart — select launch as a Windows service;
    • in all other cases — select launch as an application.
  4. If you selected launch as a Windows service, enter the username and password used to sign in to the device.

  5. Click Next.

  6. Optional: to increase security, add a password:

    6.1. Click Install.

    6.2. Enter the password.

    6.3. Click OK.

    6.4. Repeat the entered password.

    6.5. Confirm the password.

    6.6. Click Next.

    6.7. When confirming the password, the program will suggest creating a backup task. It is recommended to do this later; click Done.

  7. In the Service menu, select Storage management.

  8. Click Create and select S3-compatible.

  9. In the Folder for archives on S3-compatible window:

    9.1. Enter a name.

    9.2. In the Server name field, enter the S3 API domain. The domain depends on the pool where the bucket is located.

    9.3. In the Region field, specify the pool where the bucket is located.

    9.4. In the Access Key ID field, enter the value of the Access key field from the S3 key.

    9.5. In the Secret access key field, enter the value of the Secret key field from the S3 key.

    9.6. In the Folder field, click and select a bucket to store backups.

    9.7. Optional: to test the connection, click Test. If the connection is successful, a Successful check notification will appear.

    9.8. Click OK.

Working with Effector Saver

Create a folder backup task

  1. Open Effector Saver.

  2. In the Tasks menu, select Add task.

  3. Select File and database backup.

  4. Click Create.

  5. In the Task: Data backup window, in the Name field, enter a name for the task.

  6. In the General parameters section, select the Include files in the archive checkbox.

  7. In the Archive storage section:

    7.1. Click .

    7.2. Select the bucket.

    7.3. Click Select.

    7.4. Optional: to configure automatic deletion of old backups, select the Automatically delete outdated backups checkbox and specify the number of backups to store.

    7.5. Optional: to store backups in a separate folder in the bucket, select the Subfolder for backups in storage checkbox and enter the folder name.

    7.6. Click OK.

  8. In the Archive file section:

    8.1. Enter an archive filename.

    8.2. In the Archive name suffix field, configure the date and time display to be appended to the filename.

    8.3. In the Format field, select the archive formatting type.

    8.4. In the Compression field, select the compression level.

    8.5. Optional: to encrypt the archive with a password, select the Encrypt archives checkbox, and enter and confirm the password.

    8.6. Optional: to split the archive into parts, select the Split archive into parts checkbox and specify the part size.

  9. Optional: in the Execute Commands section, add arbitrary system commands or scripts to be executed before or after the main backup task.

  10. Optional: to set a schedule for running the backup process, in the Auto-run schedule section:

    10.1. Select the Run on schedule checkbox.

    10.2. Configure the schedule.

  11. Optional: to specify how long to wait before stopping the task, in the Interrupt execution section:

    11.1. Select the Interrupt task execution after checkbox.

    11.2. Specify the time after which the task will be stopped.

  12. Click Save.

Edit task

  1. Open Effector Saver.
  2. On the Task Settings tab, double-click the task.
  3. Make the changes.
  4. Click Save.

Change launch type

You can change the Effector Saver launch type from application to Windows service and vice-versa.

  1. Open Effector Saver.
  2. In the Service menu, click Program Settings.
  3. In the Auto-run section, change the type.
  4. Click Save.

Run task manually

  1. Open Effector Saver.
  2. On the Task Settings tab, right-click on the task and select Run now.
  3. Confirm execution.

Copy task

  1. Open Effector Saver.
  2. On the Task Settings tab, right-click on the task and select Copy task.
  3. Optional: change the task settings.
  4. Click Save.

Remove task

  1. Open Effector Saver.
  2. On the Task Settings tab, right-click on the task and select Remove task.
  3. Confirm removal.
