Antivirus protection is used in the backup recovery system. If viruses are detected during recovery from a backup, they will be removed. ## Restore a virtual machine \{#restore-vm} When restoring, the virtual machine can [overwrite the old version](#restore-vm-with-overwriting) or [be restored as a separate VM](#restore-vm-without-overwriting). ### Restore a virtual machine with overwriting \{#restore-vm-with-overwriting} 1. Open the Veeam Backup & Replication portal. You can access the portal from the [Control panel](https://my.selectel.ru/vmware/public/default/backup): in the top menu, click **Products** → **VMware-based Cloud** → **Backup**. 2. Open the **VMs** tab. 3. Select a virtual machine. 4. Click **Restore VM**. 5. Select a restore point. 6. Optional: to start the virtual machine automatically after restoration, select the **Power on VM after restoring** checkbox. 7. To restore only the data blocks required to revert the VM to an earlier state instead of restoring the entire VM from backup, enable the **Quick rollback (restore changed blocks only)** option. This will reduce restoration time without affecting performance. 8. Click **Restore**. Before starting the restoration, a warning will appear stating that the backup will be deployed over the running machine. The running machine will be powered off and deleted. The restoration status will be displayed on the same tab. ### Restore a virtual machine without overwriting \{#restore-vm-without-overwriting} 1. Open the Veeam Backup & Replication portal. You can access the portal from the [Control panel](https://my.selectel.ru/vmware/public/default/backup): in the top menu, click **Products** → **VMware-based Cloud** → **Backup**. 2. Open the **VMs** tab. 3. Select a virtual machine. 4. Click **Restore VM**. 5. Select a restore point. 6. Click **Restore**. 7. Select **keep**. The VM will be restored alongside the existing one without overwriting the current VM. The restoration status will be displayed on the same tab. ## Restore a vApp \{#restore-vapp} 1. Open the Veeam Backup & Replication portal. You can access the portal from the [Control panel](https://my.selectel.ru/vmware/public/default/backup): in the top menu, click **Products** → **VMware-based Cloud** → **Backup**. 2. Open the **VMs** tab. 3. Select a virtual machine. 4. Click **Restore vApp**. ## Restore a virtual disk \{#restore-virtual-disk} 1. Open the Veeam Backup & Replication portal. You can access the portal from the [Control panel](https://my.selectel.ru/vmware/public/default/backup): in the top menu, click **Products** → **VMware-based Cloud** → **Backup**. 2. Open the **VMs** tab. 3. Open the virtual machine page. 4. Click **Virtual Disks**. 5. At the **Restore Point** step, select a restore point. 6. Click **Next**. 7. At the **Disk Mapping** step, click **Choose**. 8. Select a virtual machine to which the restored disk will be connected. By default, the restored disk is connected to the original machine. The target machine must not have any snapshots. 9. Click **OK**. 10. Select the disks you want to restore. 11. Optional: if you want to keep the original disk intact, click **Change disk mapping** and select a free controller node. If you do not do this, the restored disk will be connected to the same controller node as the original one and will overwrite it. 12. Optional: if you want to change the type of the restored disk, select the type in the **Restored Disk Type** field. If you do not do this, the restored disk will have the same type as the original one. 13. Optional: if you are restoring to the source machine and controller node, instead of restoring the entire disk from the backup, you can restore only those data blocks that are necessary to revert the disk to an earlier state—to do this, select the **Quick rollback (restore changed blocks only)** checkbox. This will reduce restoration time without affecting performance. 14. Click **Restore**. The target machine will be powered off during restoration. 15. Optional: to start the virtual machine automatically after the disk is restored, select the **Power on target VM after disk is restored** checkbox. ## Restore individual files \{#restore-individual-files} You can restore a file to the source virtual machine or download it locally. Files are restored via VMware Tools. File restoration performance is limited. For restoring files with a total size of 10 GB or more, we recommend connecting to the restore portal from a virtual machine and downloading the files. If the total size of files to be restored is 100 GB or more, the optimal solution is to [restore the virtual disk](#restore-virtual-disk) and reboot the virtual machine. 1. Open the Veeam Backup & Replication portal. You can access the portal from the [Control panel](https://my.selectel.ru/vmware/public/default/backup): in the top menu, click **Products** → **VMware-based Cloud** → **Backup**. 2. Open the **Files** tab. 3. Click **Pick from list** and select the virtual machine where the file is located. 4. Click **Mount**. 5. Find the directory and the file. 6. If you need to restore multiple files from different directories, add the required files to the **Add to restore list**. All files will be displayed on the **Pending Restore** tab, and you will be able to restore or download them. The time required for local download of large files via a browser depends on your internet connection speed.
