# Guest OS recustomization

Guest OS customization is the modification of virtual machine operating system settings in accordance with the settings specified in the VMware Cloud Director® control panel:

* network settings;
* SID;
* administrator password.

Recustomization is required to force a reset and re-application of settings. The specified parameters will be automatically applied to the system when the virtual machine is powered on.

OS customization and recustomization are only possible if the Open VM Tools for Linux or VMware Tools for Windows service is installed and running inside the virtual machine. By default, this service is included in all templates, but when [importing a machine](/public-cloud/manage-public-cloud/import-virtural-machine/), manual installation of Open VM Tools may be required.

## Start a virtual machine with recustomization \{#run-vm-with-recustomization}

1. From the [control panel](https://my.selectel.ru/vmware/), open the Cloud Director panel: in the top menu, click **Products** → **VMware-based cloud** → the **Cloud Director \*\*\*\* section**.
2. Open the virtual data center page.
3. Go to the **Compute** → **Virtual Machines \*\*\*\* section**.
4. In the **ACTIONS** menu of the virtual machine, select **Power** → **Shut Down Guest OS**. The VM will be shut down.
5. In the **ACTIONS** menu of the virtual machine, select **Power On, Force Recustomization**.
