Manage guest OS credentials

Login

The login depends on the virtual machine OS:

  • Linux OS: username root;
  • Windows OS: username Administrator.

View password

When creating a VM from a template, the Auto generate password option is enabled, which will generate a new password when the VM is powered on.

  1. In Cloud Director, open the virtual data center page. You can go to Cloud Director from the control panel: Cloud Powered by VMware → Cloud Director.
  2. Go to Compute → Virtual Machines.
  3. On the card of the desired virtual machine, click Details.
  4. Select Guest OS Customization.
  5. Click Edit.
  6. In the Specify password field, view the password.

Password requirements

If the password does not meet the requirements, it will not be changed, even though the recustomization task will be completed successfully.

The password must be at least six characters long and contain a combination of at least three categories:

  • uppercase English letters from A to Z;
  • lowercase English letters from a to z;
  • digits (from 0 to 9);
  • non-alphabetic characters (!, $, #, %).

Change password

  1. From the control panel, open Cloud Director: in the top menu, click Products → Cloud Powered by VMware → the Cloud Director section.
  2. Open the virtual data center page.
  3. Go to Compute → Virtual Machines.
  4. In the ACTIONS menu of the virtual machine, select Power → Shut Down Guest OS. The VM will be powered off.
  5. On the virtual machine card, click Details.
  6. Select Guest OS Customization.
  7. Click Edit.
  8. Select the Enable Guest Customization checkbox.
  9. Select the Auto Generate Password checkbox to generate a password automatically, or specify a password yourself in the Specify Password field. Note the password requirements. The password is not displayed when entered, so type the password manually (do not paste a copied one).
  10. Click Save.
  11. To perform recustomization, in the ACTIONS menu of the virtual machine, select Power on, Force recustomization.
