Manage guest OS credentials
Login
The login depends on the virtual machine OS:
- Linux OS: login
root; - Windows OS: login
Administrator.
View password
When creating a VM from a template, the Auto generate password option is enabled, which will create a new password when the VM is powered on.
- In the Cloud Director panel, open the virtual data center page. You can go to Cloud Director from the control panel: Cloud (VMware-based) →** Cloud Director**.
- Go to the Compute → Virtual Machines.
- In the card of the required virtual machine, click Details.
- Select Guest OS Customization.
- Click Edit.
- In the Specify password field, view the password.
Password requirements
If the password does not meet the requirements, it will not be changed, even though the recustomization task will be completed successfully.
The password must be at least six characters long and contain a combination of at least three categories:
- uppercase English letters from
AtoZ; - lowercase English letters from
atoz; - digits (from
0to9); - non-alphabetic characters (!,
$,#,%).
Change password
- From the control panel, open the Cloud Director panel: in the top menu, click Products → Cloud (VMware-based) → section Cloud Director.
- Open the virtual data center page.
- Go to the Compute → Virtual Machines.
- In the ACTIONS menu of the virtual machine, select Power → Shut Down Guest OS. The VM will be powered off.
- In the virtual machine card, click Details.
- Select Guest OS Customization.
- Click Edit.
- Select the checkbox Enable Guest Customization.
- Check the Auto Generate Password checkbox to generate a password automatically, or set a password manually in the Specify Password field. Consider the password requirements. The password is not displayed when entered, so type it manually (do not paste a copied one).
- Click Save.
- To perform recustomization, in the ACTIONS menu of the virtual machine, select Power on, Force recustomization.
