Configure Application Profile

Application Profiles provide more complete control over network traffic. You can use them to define the behavior of specific traffic types.

  1. From the control panel, open the Cloud Director panel: in the top menu, click Products → VMware-based Cloud → Cloud Director section.

  2. Open the Networking → Edge Gateways tab.

  3. Open the page of the required Edge.

  4. Click SERVICES.

  5. Open the Load Balancer → Application Profiles tab.

  6. Click +.

  7. Enter the profile name.

  8. In the Type field, select the type of traffic for which the profile will be applied.

  9. Optional: to save and track session data (for example, which server in the pool serves a user request), in the Persistence field, select the parameter by which to do this. User requests will be routed to the same pool member throughout the session lifetime or subsequent sessions.

  10. To stop Edge from terminating SSL and terminate SSL directly on the balanced servers, enable the Enable SSL passthrough toggle switch.

  11. To determine the original IP address of a client connecting to the web server through the load balancer, enable the Insert X-Forwarded-For HTTP header toggle switch.

  12. To specify that the selected pool consists of HTTPS servers, enable the Enable Pool Side SSL toggle switch.

  13. If in the Type field you selected HTTPS, to balance HTTPS traffic, enable the Enable Pool Side SSL toggle switch and select the certificate:

    • for a virtual server — on the Virtual Server Certificates → Service Certificate tab;
    • for a server pool — on the Pool Certificates → Service Certificate tab.
