Onboarding for migration to Selectel
You can migrate your infrastructure from another provider to Selectel.
Cloud servers, volumes, networks, images, scheduled backups, and load balancers comply with the requirements of Federal Law No. 152-FZ "On Personal Data" — you can store and process personal data of users with security level 1 (UZ-1).
In addition to cloud servers, other Selectel cloud platform products also comply with the requirements for security level 1:
If mandatory certification or infrastructure isolation is required, deploy in a certified data center segment.
Registration
If you do not have a Selectel account, register an account in the control panel.
If you do not receive an SMS to activate your account during registration, make sure that the selected country of residence matches the country code of the phone number, and that your VPN is disabled. If the SMS still does not arrive, submit a ticket. In the ticket, specify a convenient time for a call so that a Selectel employee can contact you and activate your account manually.
If you do not receive an email to confirm your email address, check your Spam folder. Emails may currently not be delivered to certain mail domains due to issues on the recipient's mail service side. In this case, use a different email address to register. You can change it after activating your account. You can also submit a ticket and request that the email be resent.
After activating your account, you can change your profile information. For more details, see the Change personal or company profile details instructions.
Balance
To be able to use Selectel products and services, top up your balance with a minimum amount of 200 ₽ after registration. This money will remain on your balance, and you can spend it on Selectel products and services.
In some cases, crediting funds via SBP may take longer due to technical issues on the bank or payment gateway side. Funds will be credited with a delay or refunded to the card. If such delays occur, we recommend paying the balance by bank card.
Documents
If you need a contract or an information letter on concluding an agreement with Selectel for accounting or the counterparty's security service, we can issue an information letter specifying the agreement number, which will match the account ID, and bank details. We can send the information letter via EDI or on paper.
Selectel provides services based on the User Agreement (public offer agreement), which comes into force upon registration and payment for the service. A separately signed paper contract is not required. You can view the current version of the User Agreement on selectel.ru.
To issue an assignment for the processing of personal data, you must submit a ticket and specify in it:
- bank details;
- executive details (full name, position, basis of authority);
- and a scanned copy or photo of the passport. For individual entrepreneurs — with the registration address.
Selectel will send a draft document for signature. Signing is possible via EDI or in paper form. An assignment order is not issued for all services. For example, it is not issued for Secrets Manager.
How to start migration
-
Submit a ticket and provide the code word from the information newsletter from Yandex.Cloud colleagues.
-
Attach an export from the expenses page in PDF format to the ticket.
-
Wait for a response from a Selectel employee.
If you are a legal entity or an individual entrepreneur, we will enable postpaid billing for your account for one week. After this week, charges will be deducted from your account balance for the used product and service resources. If there are no funds on the account to be charged, rented resources will be automatically blocked.
-
Check the product availability in locations, as well as the list of blocked ports and internet resources.
-
Check the availability of resources in a specific location before migrating. For more information on how to check resource availability, see the Resource availability in locations for migration instructions.
-
Perform the migration. For more information about the migration process, types of migrations, how to prepare, and what tasks such a process can solve, see the article Migration to the cloud: how to prepare and organize the move in Selectel Academy.
To set up an L3 channel to other telecom operators and data centers, you can use:
-
If necessary, submit a request to unblock access to internet resources or ports.
-
Configure a PTR record for a public floating IP address or an IP address from a public subnet yourself. You can configure it in the control panel: in the top menu, click Products → IP addresses → in the menu of the IP address, select Add PTR.
-
Use the global router to configure network connectivity for Selectel product resources in different regions and countries.
-
Connect a resilient load balancer to distribute internet traffic among different Selectel services across different regions and availability zones.
How to choose a pool for migration and resource creation
You can view available pools in the Selectel Infrastructure subsection of the Locations: countries, regions, availability zones, pools, and data center addresses instructions.
Due to the high load on Selectel infrastructure, resources are not available in all locations, and their availability is constantly changing. Resources are periodically added to different pools depending on where free capacity appears.
We recommend checking service availability and incidents in a specific location before migrating in the control panel or on the status panel. For more information, see the Resource availability in locations for migration instructions.
Cloud server migration
Before migrating to Selectel, we recommend reviewing the Cloud Servers product.
You can also take the Product Dive: Selectel Cloud Platform practical course in advance.
You can transfer a virtual machine to Selectel using a VM image:
-
Upload the image to the Selectel image storage.
-
Prepare the image for compatibility with the cloud platform.
-
After creating and configuring the server, you can set up backups of network drives of the cloud server. Backups can also be created using images or snapshots. You can compare the tools in the Backup methods table.
If you currently cannot download the VM image from the Yandex.Cloud control panel, wait for news from Yandex.Cloud and follow the information received, or use the service recovery recommendations.
If the VM image is available in external sources, the following instructions can help you transfer data:
- Restore an external virtual machine or server from a backup;
- How to export disk images of Compute Cloud virtual machines.
Use the migration instructions to transfer your infrastructure to Selectel:
- Migrate servers using images;
- Transfer Linux server data using dd;
- Transfer Linux server data using rsync;
- Transfer a VM from another provider's VMware cloud;
- Migrate Windows servers from your own ESXi.
Migration to Managed Kubernetes
Before migrating to Selectel, we recommend reviewing the Managed Kubernetes product. You can also take the Product Dive: Managed Kubernetes practical course in advance.
