Storing data backups in another country

To reduce the risk of data loss in case of a failure, you can configure storing backups in another country.

If backups contain personal data, cross-border personal data transfer requirements apply to their transfer abroad — make sure you comply with them before configuring storage.

Taking into account resource availability, we recommend storing backups in Uzbekistan.

Requirements for cross-border personal data transfer

Cross-border personal data transfer is allowed if the following requirements are met:

  • primary collection and recording of data take place in Russia;
  • after transfer, data is stored in a country providing adequate protection of personal data subjects' rights. Among Selectel's international locations, Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan are included in the list of countries providing adequate protection;
  • the authorized body for the protection of personal data subjects' rights is notified of the cross-border transfer of personal data. There is no need to wait for prior approval from the authorized body;
  • consent for cross-border transfer of their data has been obtained from the personal data subjects.
