Infrastructure resilience
How reliable are your data centers?
Selectel data centers comply with the international Tier III standard: all engineering systems are redundant.
Power supply is protected from city grid outages: uninterruptible power supplies (UPS) and diesel generators, regularly tested under load, are installed in each data center. Cooling systems are redundant using an N+2 scheme, and network equipment uses an N+1 scheme. Facilities are equipped with an automatic gas fire extinguishing system, which is regularly maintained by a specialized licensed organization.
The data center premises are under 24/7 security: an access control system using magnetic cards and over 100 CCTV cameras are in operation. Only Selectel engineers have access to the equipment. All systems are tracked in real time by 24/7 monitoring.
How secure is data transmission between your sites?
Selectel infrastructure objects communicate over secure protocols with digital certificate authentication. For data transmission security, users connect to the control panel and API over secure protocols.

What can you recommend to me as a client to increase the fault tolerance of my infrastructure?
To increase the resilience of critical services, we recommend using geo-redundancy: placing data and workloads in geographically remote availability zones. Our availability zones are designed to minimize the impact of failures in one zone on others. This approach reduces the impact of local failures and helps maintain business continuity.
Additionally, we recommend hosting critical resources with multiple providers to minimize risks, as well as having an infrastructure recovery plan and regularly conducting disaster recovery drills.

How do I choose a location for my infrastructure?
When choosing a location, consider geographical proximity to your users to minimize signal latency.
If fault tolerance is critical for you, distribute resources across multiple regions. Selectel regions are isolated from each other: separate connections to power lines, autonomous power and cooling sources, dedicated communication channels. This ensures the geographic distribution and fault tolerance of the infrastructure.
A typical scenario: the primary infrastructure is in the region closest to your users, such as Saint Petersburg, and backups are in a geographically remote region, such as Moscow.

Can I reserve a resource in another location in advance for emergency migration?
Currently, we cannot guarantee resource availability, and the standard reservation mechanism is temporarily unavailable. The best way to reserve resources in another location is to create them, ensuring they remain assigned to you.
With active resources in other locations, you can configure backups so that you can activate your own emergency migration protocol using backups if necessary.

What is Selectel's incident handling workflow?
Selectel has internal incident response procedures.
There is no single algorithm – the recovery procedure depends on the nature and scale of the specific event. In the event of an incident, we promptly assess its impact, inform affected clients, and provide support at all stages of recovery. Up-to-date information on the status of all Selectel products can be viewed on the status page.
