General information about the Logs service

Last update:

The Logs service is designed for collecting, storing, and analyzing logs from Selectel products that support logging:

You can use logs to identify bottlenecks in your applications and infrastructure and to quickly detect errors.

Records of operations with logs are saved in audit logs.

How it works

Events that happen to a resource create an entry in a log file. Events in a log file can be combined into event streams based on logical criteria. Event streams can be combined into groups.

An event is a record of application activity, for example, the occurrence of an error. An event represents a single entry and consists of two parameters:

  • timestamp – event time;
  • message – event name.

Event streams (stream) are a sequence of events (event) combined by one source. The event stream identifier is its name. The name is an immutable parameter.

A log group (group) is a set of event streams combined based on storage parameters. The name is an immutable log group parameter. All log groups created by Selectel products start with the s/ prefix and contain the product abbreviation. For example, in the s/lbaas/my-loadbalancer entry, the prefix is s/, and the product abbreviation is lbaas.
