General information about DNS
DNS (Domain Name System) is used to translate a domain name into an IP address and back. It consists of multiple DNS servers that store information about the correspondence between domain names and IP addresses.
In the network interface settings, you must specify specific recursive DNS servers (resolvers) — servers in the DNS system that will be queried for information. We recommend using Selectel recursive DNS servers or global DNS recursors, but you can use any available DNS servers.
Selectel recursive servers do not support ANY (QTYPE= 255) type queries for retrieving all domain records. You must specify a specific record type in the query.
In OS images provided by Selectel, all necessary DNS settings are already configured. For a dedicated server, when installing an OS from your own ISO image, configure DNS at the OS level.
When creating a cloud private subnet and a public subnet, Selectel recursive DNS servers are automatically configured on the devices in the subnet. You can change the DNS servers when creating a subnet or change them after creation.
