# General information about Global Connect

Global Connect is a connection between any global cloud platform and infrastructure within Selectel. The connection is established through an international provider, Megaport. A list of available global cloud platforms is available on the [Megaport website](https://www.megaport.com/).

If you need to connect to another type of external infrastructure, such as on-premise servers, use the [Direct Connect](/direct-connect/about-direct-connect.mdx) service.

Infrastructure on Selectel's side can include [dedicated](/dedicated/) and [cloud servers](/cloud-servers/), [managed databases](/managed-databases/), [Managed Kubernetes](/managed-kubernetes/) cluster nodes, [file storage](/file-storage/), [colocation equipment](/server-colocation/), or [VMware-based cloud](/public-cloud/).

## How it works \{#principle-of-operation}

To set up a connection, we use a pre-provisioned, reserved link between Selectel and our partners—backbone telecommunications operators.

Connectivity in Europe is provided through the international provider Megaport, which ensures a reserved, private connection to global clouds. This connection features high throughput and is used exclusively for Global Connect services.

Network connectivity between partner infrastructures and Selectel is provided via a dedicated VLAN, and within the Selectel infrastructure via a [global router](/global-router/about-global-router.mdx) (a private routed network).

## Pricing \{#price}

The cost of the service is calculated individually depending on the selected cloud platform and the connection location.

If a Selectel cloud platform is involved in the connection, external traffic is [charged additionally](/cloud-servers/about/payment.mdx#external-traffic). Global cloud platforms may also charge for external traffic according to their own pricing.
