# Save and load Selectel firewall configuration file

You can [create a backup of the configuration file](#create-configuration-file-backup) to save the Selectel firewall settings. To restore the settings, [upload the configuration file](#restore-configuration-file).

## Create a configuration file backup \{#create-configuration-file-backup}

1. [Connect to the Selectel firewall via the graphical interface](/firewalls/selectel/connect-to-firewall.mdx#connect-to-firewall-through-gui).
2. In the **Diagnostics** menu, go to the **Backup & Restore**.
3. Open the **Backup & Restore** tab.
4. In the **Backup Configuration** block, configure the export settings.
5. Click **Download configuration as XML**.

## Load configuration file \{#restore-configuration-file}

1. [Connect to the Selectel firewall via the graphical interface](/firewalls/selectel/connect-to-firewall.mdx#connect-to-firewall-through-gui).
2. In the **Diagnostics** menu, go to the **Backup & Restore**.
3. Open the **Backup & Restore** → **Restore Backup** block.
4. Select the backup file.
5. In the **Restore ares** field, choose the area to restore.
6. Click **Restore Configuration**.
