Firewall Product Description

Last update:

A firewall is a system that monitors and filters traffic passing through it based on configured rules. It protects the infrastructure located behind it from network attacks.

Available for order:

The suitable firewall type depends on your infrastructure and intended use cases.

You can also use free firewalls:

With a single firewall, you can protect servers across different services and pools; to do this, use the Selectel Global Router.

Hardware firewall

A hardware firewall is a dedicated device for traffic processing.

For ordering, the following hardware firewalls are available:

  • Selectel is a solution based on a dedicated server with the pfSense software package deployed, which acts as a router and firewall;
  • Fortinet;
  • UserGate;
  • Cisco;
  • Continent;
  • CheckPoint.

For a list of available models and their specifications, see the Firewall Types guide.

The hardware firewall rental service includes:

  • a rack-mounted firewall;
  • firewall connection to the Internet with a public IP address allocated;
  • connection to the Selectel local network;
  • access to the graphical and console interface for managing and configuring the firewall;
  • replacement of failed components and network equipment in case of hardware malfunction;
  • technical support for device operation and network connectivity.

Configuration and administration of the firewall are your responsibility. If you need assistance with firewall configuration or administration, order a managed services plan.

Virtual firewall

A virtual firewall is software that is deployed in a virtual environment, for example, on a cloud server or in a VMware-based cloud.

Depending on the required firewall throughput, the configuration of the server where the firewall is deployed must meet the requirements for the number of vCPUs, RAM, and disk space.

For ordering, UserGate Virtual Edition virtual firewalls are available. For a list of available models and their specifications, see the Firewall Types guide.

The virtual firewall rental service includes:

  • a firewall image with a license activation key;
  • additional modules.
  • access to the graphical and console interface for managing and configuring the firewall;
  • support for Selectel resources on which the firewall is deployed.

Configuration and administration of the firewall are your responsibility. If you need assistance with firewall configuration or administration, order a managed services plan.
