# Failover

In case of a primary site failure, you must manually start the replicated virtual machine at the backup site.

The instructions cover failover on the Selectel side. If, after a failure, you have access to the Cloud Availability of your cloud or On-Premises, you can switch to the Selectel cloud in the interface of your cloud.

1. From the [control panel](https://my.selectel.ru/vmware/), open the Cloud Director panel: in the top menu, click **Products** → **VMware-based cloud** → **Cloud Director**.
2. In the **Menu**, select **Availability**.
3. Go to the **Incoming Replications**.
4. Select the task for the virtual machine you want to start.
5. In the **All actions** menu, select **Failover**.
6. Optional: to consolidate several separate replication instances, select the **Consolidate VM disks**.
7. Optional: to power on the virtual machine after recovery, select the **Power on recovered VMs**.
8. In the **Network Settings** block, choose whether to connect the virtual machine to a specific network or use pre-configured network parameters.
9. Click **Next**.
10. Select a recovery point.
11. Click **Next**.
12. Check the parameters and click **Finish**. Once recovery is complete, the **Recovery state** column in the replication task row will display the **Failed-Over** status. After failover, the virtual machine is located in a different virtual data center and is no longer replicated.
13. After recovering the virtual machine, perform one of these actions:

    * [switch back to your primary site and set up replication again](/draas/manage/reverse-replication.mdx) — the virtual machine will run on your site again and be replicated to the Selectel cloud;
    * [delete the replication job](/draas/manage/manage-tasks.mdx#delete-replication-job) — the virtual machine will continue to run in the Selectel cloud and will not be replicated;
    * or [set up replication from the backup site to the primary site](/draas/manage/manage-tasks.mdx#create-reverse-replication-job) — the virtual machine will run in the Selectel cloud and be replicated to your site, with all VMware-based public cloud resources being paid for.
