VMware Cloud Disaster Recovery as a Service (DRaaS) Overview
VMware Cloud Disaster Recovery as a Service (DRaaS) provides VMware cloud computing resources in Selectel to build a disaster-resilient infrastructure for your cloud. DRaaS requires no capital expenditure or additional hardware.
You can configure DRaaS for your VMware (On-Premises) infrastructure, a private cloud, or a public cloud hosted by another VMware provider.
Operating Principle
Infrastructure resiliency is achieved by replicating your cloud powered by VMware from your primary site to the Selectel cloud.
Virtual machines are synchronized according to a disaster recovery plan that you create when setting up DRaaS. In the event of a disaster at the primary site, you can quickly launch virtual machines at the secondary site with minimal recovery time objectives (RTOs) and recovery point objectives (RPOs).
Solutions
Disaster recovery to a VMware cloud is available in two solutions:
- VMware Cloud Director Availability™ is a DRaaS service integrated into VMware Cloud Director®. It is designed for cross-cloud migration and disaster recovery. It allows you to configure replication between a client's VMware vCenter Server and a VMware-based public cloud in Selectel. You can back up your infrastructure to the Selectel cloud and vice versa;
- Veeam Cloud Connect Replication™ — a DRaaS service integrated into Veeam Backup & Replication™. It is designed for disaster recovery using VM replication. In the event of a disaster, you can launch individual VMs (Failover Now) or the entire infrastructure using a prepared plan (Failover Plan).

Clusters
Since replication occurs to a public cloud powered by VMware, its clusters are used for disaster recovery. You can choose any public cloud cluster as your secondary site.
