General information about the Domains product

Selectel offers domains in the .ru or .рф zones. You can register a new domain or transfer an existing domain from another registrar.

You can manage domains in the service, for example, edit administrator data, change the administrator, or delegate a domain.

The product supports user types and roles and projects.

Records of operations with domains are saved in audit logs.

How it works

Domain registration is the leasing of the right to use a domain name for a registration period.

When a domain is registered, an administrator—the domain owner—must be specified for it. The domain administrator can be an individual or an organization. Information about the registered domain and its administrator is stored in the domain name registry of the .RU/.РФ Coordination Center.

To manage domain resource records, you can use Selectel DNS hosting.

Domain life stages

Registration stage

This stage begins when you have registered a domain.
For domains in .ru and .рф zones, it lasts for one year.

The domain belongs to you; within the last 60 days of the period, you can renew the domain.

Preferential renewal stage

This stage begins immediately after the registration period ends if you have not renewed the domain.
For domains in .ru and .рф zones, it lasts for 30 days.

The domain still belongs to you, but it is no longer delegated. Any action other than renewal is prohibited for the domain

Domain deletion

The domain is deleted if you do not renew it before the end of the preferential renewal stage.

After deletion, the domain's resource records will automatically stop working, the administrator information will be cleared, and the domain will become available for registration to anyone. You will be able to register the domain again if it is not yet taken.

Documents

Domain registration in Selectel is regulated by the .RU/.РФ Coordination Center based on the following documents:

Cost

Depending on the account balance type, payment is made using a unified balance or a master balance.

When a domain is registered, the fee for the first registration period—one year—is deducted from the balance. If you transfer a domain to Selectel from another registrar, the transfer cost is deducted from the balance, and the remaining registration period continues.

By default, auto-renewal is enabled for the domain — the fee for the next registration period is automatically deducted from the balance 60 days before the registration period ends. You can disable auto-renewal and if necessary renew the domain manually.
