# Connect Direct Connect — physical port

1. Select a [telecom operator](/direct-connect/about-direct-connect.mdx#telecom-operators-at-selectel-data-centers) in a Selectel data center.

2. Coordinate with the operator the possibility of connecting to their equipment within the Selectel infrastructure.

3. Clarify the following with the operator:

   * hardware coordinates in the Selectel data center — server room and rack number;
   * port operation mode towards the Selectel switch: Access or Trunk;
   * unit and port number on the provider equipment to which the cross-connect will be connected;
   * who will perform the physical cross-connect on the provider side: a Selectel employee or a provider representative;
   * what type of cross-connect the provider provides to the Selectel switch: copper or optical.

   If an optical cross-connect will be used, specify:

   * fiber type: single-mode or multi-mode;
   * connector type, for example LC;
   * optical module (transceiver) type on the provider side, for example SFP+ 10G LR;
   * transmit (Tx) and receive (Rx) wavelengths.

4. In the [control panel](https://my.selectel.ru/network/directconnect/physical), on the top menu, click **Products** and select **Direct Connect**.

5. Open the **Physical Port** tab.

6. Click **Order service**.

7. Select a [global router](/global-router/about-global-router.mdx):

   * if you have already [connected products and services via a global router](/global-router/create-network/create-global-router-network.mdx), select an existing router;
   * if you want to [create a new global router](/global-router/router/create-router.mdx), select **Need new**.

8. Enter the telecom provider name.

9. Select the [region](/infrastructure/locations.mdx#region) where the provider rack is located.

10. Select the connection bandwidth — 1, 10, 25, 40, or 100 Gbps. The connection bandwidth determines the type of [hardware](/direct-connect/about-direct-connect.mdx#hardware) used for connectivity.

11. If you selected a connection bandwidth of 1 Gbps, select the cross-connect type: copper or optical.

12. If you do not need to reserve the connection, uncheck the **MC-LAG Redundant Connection** checkbox.

13. Select connectivity products in the Selectel infrastructure.

14. Optional: if you need to configure dynamic routing via BGP on a global router, select the **BGP Connection** checkbox.

15. Optional: enter any additional information about the connection. For example, the information from the provider you received in step 3.

16. Click **Order**. A ticket with the service order will be created automatically.

17. Wait for a response from a Selectel employee in the ticket; they will clarify details to proceed with setting up the connection.

18. Once the connection is approved, a port will be allocated on the Selectel switch for connecting the cross-connect from the selected provider. The VLAN with this port will appear in the [control panel](https://my.selectel.ru/servers/network/networks): in the top menu click **Products** → **Dedicated Servers** → **Network** → the **VLAN** tab.

19. Configure the connection to the provider channel depending on the service use case:

    * configure the connection to the provider channel to [connect to the internet from the provider](/direct-connect/physical/get-internet.mdx);
    * configure the connection to the provider channel to [configure connectivity with external infrastructure](/direct-connect/physical/connect-external-infrastucture.mdx).
