# Order a dedicated server of custom configuration

1. [Select components](#select-components).
2. [Place an order](#order-server).

## 1. Select components \{#select-components}

In the server configurator, component selection defaults to starting with the processor and proceeds sequentially. You can change the component selection order and start with the graphics card. After selecting one component, incompatible components in subsequent steps are excluded.

If you need help choosing components, [create a ticket](https://my.selectel.ru/tickets/create) or contact us through other methods — you can view the contact information at [selectel.ru](https://selectel.ru/about/contacts).

    </TabItemLabel>

    1. In the [control panel](https://my.selectel.ru/servers/), on the top menu, click **Products** and select **Dedicated Servers**.

    2. Select a [project](/access-control/projects/about-projects.mdx).

    3. If there are already created servers in the project, go to the **Servers** section and click **Order server**. If there are no servers in the project, the order page will open automatically.

    4. Open the **Server Configurator** tab.

    5. Optional: select the [region](/infrastructure/locations.mdx#region) and [pool](/infrastructure/locations.mdx#pool) in which the server will be created. The list of available components depends on the pool. Once the order is placed, you cannot change the region or pool.

    6. Select a [processor](dedicated/order/select-components.mdx#cpu) and specify the required quantity if it supports multi-processor systems. After the order is placed, you cannot replace the server processor. If a different processor or a different number of processors is required, order a new server.

    7. Configure [RAM](dedicated/order/select-components.mdx#ram):

       * select the total memory volume;
       * or configure memory modules — to do this, click **Manage memory modules**, select the module volume, and specify the required quantity.

    8. Add [drives](dedicated/order/select-components.mdx#disks):

       8.1. To connect a drive directly to the motherboard, click **Add drive**, select the drive, and specify the required quantity.

       NVMe drives may be unavailable if the motherboard has no suitable slots for the selected configuration — in this case, you can connect NVMe drives via an HBA controller at step 8.2.

       8.2. To connect a drive via an [HBA or RAID controller](dedicated/order/select-components.mdx#hba-and-raid-controllers), click **Add HBA or RAID controller**, select the controller, click **Add drive to controller**, select the drive, and specify the required quantity.

    9. Optional: add additional [network cards](dedicated/order/select-components.mdx#network-cards). You can choose a slot for the network card: PCI-e or OCP. If there are no available slots on the motherboard for the selected configuration, slot selection will be unavailable. For example, if the motherboard lacks an OCP slot, the network card will only be available in the PCI-e slot.

    10. Optional: add [GPU](dedicated/order/select-components.mdx#gpu) and specify the required quantity.

    11. Optional: add [PCI-e trusted boot devices](dedicated/order/select-components.mdx#pci-e-card) and specify the required quantity.

    12. Select a [motherboard](dedicated/order/select-components.mdx#motherboard). If only one motherboard option is available for the selected configuration, the field will be filled in automatically.

    13. Select a [chassis](dedicated/order/select-components.mdx#case). If only one chassis option is available for the selected configuration, the field will be filled in automatically.

</Tabs>

## 2. Place an order \{#order-server}

1. On the **Ordering** tab, check the dedicated server configuration.

2. Check the [region](/infrastructure/locations.mdx#region) and [pool](/infrastructure/locations.mdx#pool) where your server will be hosted. Change the region and pool if necessary. Once the order is placed, you cannot change the region or pool.

3. Optional: if you added one hardware RAID controller to the server configuration and will be using a Linux-based OS, set up a RAID array.

   Drives of the same size that were added to the RAID controller are automatically combined into one RAID array.

   To set up a RAID array:

   3.1. Click **Add RAID array** or change the composition of drives in an existing array.

   3.2. Select the drives you want to add to the RAID array.

   3.3. Select the RAID level. Note the specifics of configuring software RAID in the Control Panel:

   * you can add only two drives to a RAID1 array;
   * [OS auto-installation](/dedicated/manage/autoinstall-os.mdx) is available only for Linux-based OSs and for RAID1 and RAID0 level arrays.

4. Select an operating system for automatic installation on the server. To select:

   * [standard OS image](/dedicated/manage/os-images.mdx#standart-os-images) — open the **OS** tab. If you need a server without an OS, select **No OS - boot** on the **OS** tab — after the server is provisioned, you can install the OS [manually](/dedicated/manage/install-os-from-image.mdx) or via [auto-installation](/dedicated/manage/autoinstall-os.mdx).

      When selecting the Astra Linux OS, the server will be provisioned with **No OS - boot**. After paying for the server, you must [order the Astra Linux installation service](/dedicated/manage/os-astra-linux.mdx#order-astra-linux-os) on the server.

   * [OS image with applications](/dedicated/manage/os-images.mdx#os-images-with-applications) — open the tab **Applications**;

   * [prepared ISO image](/dedicated/manage/create-custom-image.mdx) — open the tab **Images**.

5. Optional: select the system disk on which the OS will be installed. If you selected a Linux-based OS in step 4, you can [partition the disks](/dedicated/manage/autoinstall-os.mdx#partition-disks) and configure software RAID.

6. Optional: for a secure connection to the server via the encrypted SSH protocol, select a previously uploaded and placed SSH key or add a new one. For details, see the instructions [Create and upload an SSH key on a dedicated server](/dedicated/manage/create-and-place-ssh-key.mdx).

7. Optional: if you have a Linux-based OS and no HBA or RAID controllers are added to the server configuration, the **User data** field will be available. To automate server configuration, specify the server configuration parameters in the cloud-config format or as a bash script. For more information, see the section [User data examples](/dedicated/manage/user-data.mdx#user-data-script-examples).

8. Select a [traffic consumption model](/dedicated/networks/traffic-plans.mdx).

9. Select a [billing plan](/dedicated/about/payment.mdx).

10. Specify the required number of servers.

11. Optional: if you selected an OS for automatic installation in step 4, configure the IP address by selecting a VLAN:

    * shared — the server will be assigned a [public IP address from the shared VLAN](/dedicated/networks/public-networks-and-subnets.mdx#public-shared-ips). It will not be possible to change the IP address or add additional IP addresses to the server;

    * dedicated — if you have already [ordered a dedicated subnet](/dedicated/networks/public-networks-and-subnets.mdx#order-dedicated-subnet), you can select the subnet and assign an IP address to the server.

12. Optional: enter a comment for the order. For example, specify hardware connection details or the drive installation order you need. The drive installation order affects the order in which they are detected in the system. By default, drives are installed in the following order: NVMe → SSD → HDD. If a system disk is not assigned in the partition layout, the OS will be installed on the disk that is detected first in the system.

13. Optional: on the **Additional services** tab, view the list of [additional services](/dedicated/about/additional-services.mdx). You can order additional services after the server is delivered.

14. Confirm your agreement with the payment terms.

15. Click **Pay now**.

16. Review the order details and click **Pay**. Depending on the selected components, preparing the server for operation may take from one to five business days. When the server is ready for delivery, you will receive an email notification and will be able to [connect](/dedicated/manage/connect-to-server.mdx) to it. The [paid period](/dedicated/about/payment.mdx) begins from the moment the server is delivered. The server password will be available for viewing for 24 hours from the moment the server is delivered. If you forgot the password, you can [reset and recover it](/dedicated/troubleshooting/recover-password.mdx).
