KVM console

The KVM console (IPMI) is an interface for server administration and managing a dedicated server regardless of the status of its processor, BIOS, or operating system. It is implemented based on the BMC controller built into the motherboard. It is used for technical maintenance and remote server management when it is not possible to connect via SSH or RDP.

KVM console is available by default for every dedicated server, except for Chipcore Line servers. For them, you can enable the additional service Temporary IP-KVM connection for Chipcore Line servers.

Connect to a server via the KVM console only from the server page in the control panel.

The following operations are available in the KVM console menu:

  • full-screen console display mode;
  • power on, power off, or restart the server;
  • send key combinations;
  • reconnect to the console.

Connect to a server via the KVM console

For different servers, the connection process and the interface for managing the server via the KVM console may differ slightly. This depends on the type of the server motherboard and the BMC controller built into it.

If you have launched the KVM console for a single server multiple times, text input will only be enabled for the tab you opened first.

  1. In the control panel, on the top menu, click Products → Dedicated Servers.
  2. In the server card, click . The KVM console will open in a new browser tab. If necessary, expand the KVM console window.
  3. If you have an X8DTU motherboard, synchronize the cursor.
  4. If the KVM console asks for permission to run, confirm it by clicking Run.
  5. If the KVM console requests authorization, move the cursor to the Username and Password fields, and click username and password in the bottom right corner of the window. The field values will be filled in automatically. If you do not see the buttons in the bottom right corner, reconnect to the console.
  6. If the KVM console control panel appears, select the Remote control section in the left menu. On the remote access page, click Launch H5Viewer.
  7. Log in to the server. You can view the login (username) and password (password) in the Control Panel: in the top menu, click Products → Dedicated Servers → Servers → server page → tab Operating System → field Login and Password. The password can be viewed for 24 hours from the start of OS installation or configuration changes. If you are connecting to a server running Windows, make sure the English keyboard layout is enabled when entering the password on the server.

Working with the KVM console

Expand the KVM console window

  1. In the KVM console window, open the Options menu → Preference.
  2. Open the Window tab.
  3. Uncheck the Auto resize window box.
  4. Click OK. A button to expand the KVM console window will appear in the top-right corner.
  5. Expand the window.

Synchronize the cursor

For servers with an X8DTU motherboard, you must synchronize the cursor every time you connect.

  1. Ensure that you have an X8DTU motherboard. If you have a different motherboard, create a ticket.
  2. In the KVM console window, open the Mouse menu.
  3. Uncheck the Synchronize Cursor box.
  4. Check the Synchronize Cursor box.
