Modify the rack for a dedicated server

Any ordered server will be located in a rack in the server room. For more information, see the Pool subsection of the Locations guide.

Fixed-configuration servers, including Chipcore, are installed in racks in advance. Custom-configuration servers are installed in available rack spaces after ordering. When you order multiple servers, our algorithm analyzes technical capabilities at the time of the order and tries to place the servers in different racks to increase fault tolerance.

Each rack has three points of failure: internet port, private port, and power. In extremely rare cases, rack operation may be disrupted. If even a few minutes of service downtime is critical, we recommend placing servers so that servers belonging to the same project are located in different racks. This will minimize the risk of service unavailability in the event of a rack failure.

You can view the current server locations and submit a request to move a server to another rack in the Control panel: in the top menu, click Products and select Dedicated Servers → Servers → Rack location tab.

Move a server to a different rack

You can move a server between racks only within the same pool.

In the Control panel, in the top menu, click Products and select Dedicated Servers.
In the Servers section, open the Rack location tab.
Select the rack to move the server from and click Request server relocation.
Select the server(s) to migrate.
In the Comment field, enter additional information, for example, specify racks to which the server cannot be moved, or servers to whose racks the server cannot be moved.
Click Request relocation. A ticket with the server relocation request will be created automatically.
Wait for a Selectel employee to respond regarding the feasibility of relocating your server. If server relocation is possible, the employee will confirm a convenient time for the work and will notify you when the work is complete after the server has been moved to a different rack.
