Product Description Dedicated Servers

Last update:

A dedicated server is a physical server of a ready-made or custom configuration, all resources of which are available only to you. Servers are located in server rooms in Selectel data centers. Read more about the data center in the Selectel blog article Where Do Servers Live? Overview of the data center on Tsvetochnaya.

Terms of use for the product are defined by the document Terms of Use for Separate Services: Providing a Dedicated Server and a Dedicated Server of Custom Configuration. Dedicated servers of all configurations are, by default, compliant with Federal Law No. 152-FZ for the processing of personal data at the 1st security level.

If mandatory certification of an information system, the use of only certified security tools, or processing of personal data at security levels 1 and 2 is required — place the server in a certified segment of the data center.

To work with the product, the access control model in Selectel products is supported: user types, roles, projects.

To get started, order a dedicated server.

Use cases

  • hosting large websites, online stores, and SaaS services with constant traffic;
  • hosting databases;
  • environment for development and testing;
  • backup and archiving systems, media storages;
  • streaming platforms, game servers;
  • monitoring services;
  • analytics and stream data processing systems;
  • graphics and video rendering;
  • hosting machine learning models;
  • virtualization clusters (KVM, VMware, Proxmox);
  • microservices and API gateways with many concurrent requests;
  • hosting corporate infrastructure, CRM, accounting systems, and more.

How it works

You can order a server:

When ordering a server from the control panel, you can choose a server:

  • ready-made configuration – they are assembled, tested, and racked in advance. The server will be available for operation in two minutes or more after ordering (excluding the time required to install the OS);
  • custom configuration – the server is assembled to order from components that you select in the configurator. When ordering, you can choose any configuration to suit your tasks. Server preparation takes from two to five business days.

When ordering a server via Terraform, you can only order servers of a ready-made configuration.

Depending on the tasks the dedicated server will be solving, you can connect additional services.

How to work with a dedicated server

After the server is handed over, you can manage it:

For remote server management, you need to connect to the dedicated server.

You can track metrics for dedicated servers using the Metrics service.

Operations records for dedicated servers are saved in audit logs.

Areas of responsibility

Division of responsibility and the service level agreement (SLA) are described in the document Terms of use for individual services.

Selectel provides

  • uninterrupted power supply to equipment, climate control;
  • service maintenance;
  • connection to the local network and the Internet.

Selectel is not responsible

  • for the configuration and maintenance of server software;
  • creation and storage of backups.

You administer the dedicated server yourself: you install and configure the necessary software and set up backups. Read more about the available solutions in the Dedicated server backups instruction.

For configuration and maintenance of server software, order service administration services.

Pricing

A dedicated server is paid for according to the chosen billing plan and traffic consumption model. The billing plan determines the duration of the paid period and the payment amount; the traffic consumption model determines the traffic limits included in the billing plan. Learn more in the instructions for Dedicated server payment model and pricing.

What is included in the price

The price of a dedicated server includes:

Limits and restrictions

Access to BIOS settings is not provided. Servers are commissioned with optimal settings and maximum performance. Any unauthorized interference may result in instability and increased wear, and will disable automatic OS installation and disk wiping.

When ordering a dedicated server, limits are applied automatically to the network equipment. These limits apply to both local ports and internet ports. Learn more in the instruction Network limits for a dedicated server port.

By default, any dedicated server is assigned a limit of 25 MAC addresses per switch port.

For a dedicated server, there are broadcast traffic limits (broadcast, unknown-unicast, and multicast) of 10 MB/sec per port for each individual traffic type.
