Restore from backup

  • from bootable media (Bootable Media) — if the OS is not functional;
  • via the Cyber Backup panel — if the OS is functional and internet access is available.

Restore from bootable media

If the OS does not boot, you can restore the backup from bootable media — a system image with drivers. You can create it in advance or download a ready-made ISO file; for details, see the Creating physical bootable media instructions in the Cyber Backup Cloud documentation.

  1. If you do not have pre-created bootable media, download the ready-made ISO file.
  2. Optional: generate a registration token.
  3. Restore from a backup.

1. Optional: download the ready-made ISO file

If you already have a previously created bootable medium, you do not need to download the ready-made ISO file.

  1. In the Cyber Backup panel, go to Devices → All devices.
  2. Select a machine.
  3. Click Restore → Other ways to restore → Download ISO image.

2. Optional: generate a registration token

Using a registration token, you can access the backup storage without entering a username and password. To generate a registration token, see the Managing registration tokens instructions in the Cyber Backup Cloud documentation.

3. Restore from backup

  1. Mount the image to the machine.
  2. Boot the machine using the bootable medium. Bootable Backup Agent will open.
  3. Click Recovery.
  4. Load the image.
  5. Click Configure network settings.
  6. Configure the network settings so that the machine has internet access.
  7. Click OK.
  8. Click Manage this machine locally → Restore.
  9. Click Select data → Browse → Cloud storage → Login.
  10. Enter the account credentials used to log in to the Cyber Backup panel and click OK.
  11. Select the machine, the recovery point, and mark the data to be recovered (logical volumes, physical disks, or files).
  12. Check the parameters.
  13. Click Restore Disk 1, where Disk 1 is the name of the data to be restored.
  14. Specify the disk or volume to which the backup will be recovered.
  15. Click OK. You can track the recovery progress on the Recovery progress tab.

Restore via the Cyber Backup panel

Via the Cyber Backup panel, you can restore an entire machine or individual files and folders; for details, see the Recovery: cheat sheet instructions in the Cyber Backup Cloud documentation. For more information on file recovery, see the Recovering files using the web interface instructions in the Cyber Backup Cloud documentation.

  1. In the Cyber Backup panel, go to Devices.
  2. In the machine card, click Restore.
  3. Select a recovery point.
  4. If the backup is encrypted, enter the password.
  5. Select the files and folders to recover. The total size of the files must not exceed 100 MB.
  6. Click Restore.
  7. If you need to download individual files, click Download.
  8. If you need to download directories from a backup, in the list of backups, click Other ways to restore → Download files.
