General information about DNS
DNS (Domain Name System) is used to convert a domain name to an IP address and back. It consists of many DNS servers that store information about matching domain names and IP addresses.
In the network interface settings, you must specify specific recursive DNS servers (resolvers) — servers in the DNS system from which information will be queried. We recommend using Selectel recursive DNS servers or global DNS recursors, but you can use any available DNS servers.
The OS images prepared by Selectel have all the necessary settings for DNS. For a dedicated server, configure DNS on the OS side when installing the OS from its ISO image.
When you create a cloud private subnet and a public subnet, Selectel recursive DNS servers are automatically assigned to the devices in the subnet. You can change the DNS servers when you create the subnet or change them after the subnet is created.
