Scale the OpenSearch cluster

In an OpenSearch cloud database cluster, you can add a new node group и scale an existing node group:

  • increase the number of nodes in the group — in node group with the Data role you can increase the number of nodes to ten;
  • modify node group configuration — increase vCPU, RAM or disk size. You can select a configuration from another line of configurations, but the type of disk used must match and the disk size must be larger. The time to change the configuration depends on the amount of data in the cluster.

Add a node group

You can add a group of nodes with the Dashboard role and a second group of nodes with the Data role.

  1. В control panels from the top menu, press Products and select Managed databases.

  2. Open the tab Active.

  3. Open the database cluster page → tab Settings.

  4. On the menu node groups, select Scale up.

  5. In the block Cluster click Add a node group.

  6. Optional: change the name of the node group.

  7. Select the role of the node group — more about roles in the instructions OpenSearch Node Groups.

  8. Select range of configurations.

  9. If you selected a lineup with arbitrary configurations, specify the number of vCPUs, RAM size, and disk size.

  10. If you have selected a lineup with fixed configurations, select a configuration.

  11. Specify the number of nodes in the group.

  12. Optional: to make the nodes of the group accessible from the Internet, connect a public IP address for them:

    • If you have selected an existing private subnet, turn on the toggle switch Public access. The private subnet must correspond to demands;
    • If you are creating a new private subnet, connect a public IP address after adding a group of nodes.

    IP addresses are automatically assigned to all nodes in the group.
