General information about DNS
DNS (Domain Name System) is used to translate a domain name into an IP address and back. It consists of multiple DNS servers that store information about the correspondence between domain names and IP addresses.
In the network interface settings, specify specific recursive DNS servers (resolvers) — servers in the DNS system from which information will be requested. We recommend using Selectel recursive DNS servers or global DNS recursors, but you can use any available DNS servers.
Selectel recursive servers do not support ANY (QTYPE= 255) queries to retrieve all domain records. You must specify a specific record type in the query.
In OS images prepared by Selectel, all necessary DNS settings are already configured. For a dedicated server, when installing the OS from your own ISO image, configure DNS on the OS side.
When creating a cloud private subnet and a public subnet, Selectel recursive DNS servers are automatically configured on devices in the subnet. DNS servers can be changed when creating a subnet or changed after creation.
