Migrate a cloud server disk

Move the disk to another segment of the pool

To move a disk to another pool segment, you must create an image of the disk, move the image, and create a new disk from the image. You cannot directly move a disk to another pool segment.

When transferring a disk image, you can select a different project or account.

  1. Create a disk image.
  2. Transfer the image to another segment of the pool.
  3. Create a disk from the image.
  4. Optional: delete the disk image.

Transfer the disk to another project or account

You can move a network volume to another project or account only within the same pool segment. You can migrate a single disk or several disks at once.

  1. Disconnect the disk from the cloud server.
  2. In the dashboard, on the top menu, click Products and select Cloud Servers.
  3. Go to the Disks section.
  4. From the menu of the disk, select Transfer to another project.
  5. Click Start Transfer. The disk will enter the AWAITING_TRANSFER status and will be unavailable for operation. In the window that opens, the data to complete the transfer - Transfer ID and Key - will appear.
  6. Optionally, to cancel the migration at any time (putting the disk back into ACTIVE status), from the menu of the disk, select Manage migration and click Cancel migration.
  7. In the adjacent browser tab, open the project to which you want to move the disk.
  8. In the dashboard, on the top menu, click Products and select Cloud Servers.
  9. Navigate to the Disks section. Make sure you open the list of disks in the same pool segment from which you are migrating the disk.
  10. In the menu of the section header, select Accept disks from another project.
  11. In the window that opens, enter the Transfer ID and Key that you received in step 5. Click Accept.
