Create a CDN resource

You can create a new CDN resource or duplicate an existing one.

A CDN resource is a set of settings that determine how the CDN will retrieve content from the content origin and deliver it to end users.

The content origin can be:

• a custom origin — a server accessible from the Internet via HTTP or HTTPS;
• or an S3 bucket.

Custom origin

1. Make sure you topped up your balance by 200 ₽. This is required to start the CDN resource creation process. The funds will remain on your balance.

2. In the control panel, in the top menu, click Products and select CDN.

3. Click Create resource.

4. Select the optimization type for content delivery:

   • static content — if you need to deliver web files via CDN that are used for website display: images, styles, scripts, small videos, text files (HTML, CSS, JS, and others);

   • or Large files (over 20 MB) — if you need to deliver long videos or files via CDN that users will download: distributions, archives, disk images. The CDN will download such files from the origin in parts rather than entirely. By default, the size of one part (slice) is 16 MB; you can change the slice size after creating the CDN resource.

   You can change the optimization type after creating the CDN resource.

5. In the Address field, enter the domain or IP address of the content source.

6. Click Create. A default domain of the form *.selcdn.net will be generated for the CDN resource. You can keep the default domain or добавить персональный домен.

S3 bucket

An S3 bucket as a content origin can be:

• public — with free access to content;
• or private — with access to content via a key.

Public bucket

1. Make sure you topped up your balance by 200 ₽. This is required to start the CDN resource creation process. The funds will remain on your balance.

2. If you don't have a public bucket, create one following the S3: Quick start instructions. When creating it, select the public bucket type.

3. In the control panel, in the top menu, click Products and select CDN.

4. Click Create resource.

5. Select the optimization type for content delivery:

   • static content — if you need to deliver web files via CDN that are used for website display: images, styles, scripts, small videos, text files (HTML, CSS, JS, and others);

   • or Large files (over 20 MB) — if you need to deliver long videos or files via CDN that users will download: distributions, archives, disk images. The CDN will download such files from the origin in parts rather than entirely. By default, the size of one part (slice) is 16 MB; you can change the slice size after creating the CDN resource.

   You can change the optimization type after creating the CDN resource.

6. In the Address field, enter the public bucket address of the form *.selstorage.ru without the protocol. You can view the address in the control panel: in the top menu, click Products → S3 → Buckets section → bucket page → Domains tab → Primary domain field.

7. Click Create. A default domain of the form *.selcdn.net will be generated for the CDN resource. You can keep the default domain or добавить персональный домен.

8. Configure CDN resource requests to the content origin so that the CDN accesses the required bucket.

   8.1. Open the created resource page → Origin tab.

   8.2. In the Hostname block, in the Origin Hostname field, enter the public bucket address that you entered in step 6.

   8.3. Click Apply. While the settings are being applied, the CDN resource will have the PROCESSING status. During this time, applying other settings is unavailable. The settings will be applied when the CDN resource transitions to ACTIVE.

Private bucket

1. Make sure you topped up your balance by 200 ₽. This is required to start the CDN resource creation process. The funds will remain on your balance.

2. If you don't have a private bucket, create one following the S3: Quick start instructions. When creating it, select the private bucket type.

3. Create a service user with an S3 key. The key values will be required to configure access to the private bucket in step 9.

   3.1. Add a service user.

   3.2. Issue an S3 key to the service user.

4. In the control panel, in the top menu, click Products and select CDN.

5. Click Create resource.

6. Select the optimization type for content delivery:

   • static content — if you need to deliver web files via CDN that are used for website display: images, styles, scripts, small videos, text files (HTML, CSS, JS, and others);

   • or Large files (over 20 MB) — if you need to deliver long videos or files via CDN that users will download: distributions, archives, disk images. The CDN will download such files from the origin in parts rather than entirely. By default, the size of one part (slice) is 16 MB; you can change the slice size after creating the CDN resource.

   You can change the optimization type after creating the CDN resource.

7. In the Address field, enter the private bucket address in the format <bucket_name>.<endpoint>:<port>. For example: mycdn.s3.ru-1.storage.selcloud.ru:443.

   Specify:

   • <bucket_name> — private bucket name. You can view it in the control panel: in the top menu, click Products → S3 → Buckets section → bucket page → Connection tab → Bucket name field;

   • <endpoint> — address for accessing the private bucket. You can view it in the control panel: in the top menu, click Products → S3 → Buckets section → bucket page → Connection tab → Endpoint field;

   • <port> — private bucket port. You can view it in the control panel: in the top menu, click Products → S3 → Buckets section → bucket page → Connection tab → Port field.

8. Click Create. A default domain of the form *.selcdn.net will be generated for the CDN resource. You can keep the default domain or добавить персональный домен.

9. Configure CDN resource requests to the content origin so that the CDN accesses the required bucket with authorization.

   9.1. Open the created resource page → Origin tab.

   9.2. In the Hostname block, in the Origin Hostname field, enter the private bucket address that you entered in step 7.

   9.3. In the AWS authentication block, select the Use AWS authentication for origin requests checkbox.

   9.4. Enter the Access key value from the S3 key you issued in step 3.2.

   9.5. Enter the Secret key value from the S3 key you issued in step 3.2.

   9.6. Click Apply. While the settings are being applied, the CDN resource will have the PROCESSING status. During this time, applying other settings is unavailable. The settings will be applied when the CDN resource transitions to ACTIVE.
